- XID Timeout IS a v.42 negotiation feature. Are you sure those are
- Multitechs though? Because the XID Timeout error was a VERY common bug
- with connecting to Rockwell based modems (due ot the way Rockwell
- implemented MNP10 negotiation in their firmware), but I haven't heard of
- any problems like this with AT&T based modems such as Multitechs. In any
- case, the 04/18/95 firmware was supposed to have worked around this bug.
- Alternatively you could try setting S27=48, which is another work around
- that should work (that just tells the modem to skip the v.42 negotiation
- and use LAP-M anyway). If that still doesn't work, you could try setting
- S27=32, which disables v.42 altogether and just uses plain old MNP4
- negotiation.

- While this may be the case, spending more for a modem doesn't
- always garuntee better performance. Many people expierenced the same
- problem when connecting to Rockwells with their Couriers.
